Casting Exam Success for Clonanav

Both Andrew Ryan and Jason O'Riordan were both sucessful at recent FFF casting exams in Northern Ireland. Jason passed his CI (certified Instructor) exam and was tested by Pakie Trotter and Tom Woods. Jason is delighted to have passed this exam, and we will have more new on this to come.

Andrew Ryan passed the THCI exam (two handed casting instructor) and one only a few such instructors in Ireland. This exam is deemed to be the highest double handed casting qualification exam existing. Andrew also holds the FFF CI, MCI, and APGAI qualifications.

We will be hosting a series of new courses for both beginners and advanced for 2010 including a series of salmon courses.

Specimen fish Caught at Clonanav

Fishing Guide Harold R Harsh from the USA, caught this amazing brown trout at Clonanav today on the River Suir. The fish was over 26 inches and is pictured where with Clonanav Guide Jason O'Riordan. Caught using a Conehead wooly bugger in high water, this is an amazing Suir fish! This was one of several large fish caught this week.

Ian Gordon the famous Scottish caster will be demonstration double handed techniques using some of the latest Hardy & Greys Gear. Ian hails from the river Spey in Scotland, having fished since the age of eight and worked as a Ghillie on the Knockando beat (Spey) for 19 years. He is a qualified STANIC salmon instructor, specialising in the Spey cast, along with teaching basic casting with a double handed rod.

Lawrie Hickman is an experienced angler and has spent many years running lodges in Russia, he is a member if the Guideline team and will be displaying the latest gear from Guideline this year.

Jim Fearn an AAPGAI instuctor from the UK will be demonstrating for Vision and Redington, his relaxed casting style is legendary and he will be available to give tips and advice throughout the weekend.

Andrew Ryan will also be giving some casting and fishing technique demos including how to fish streamers and nymphs.  Andrew who owns Clonanav is an FFF Master and fly casting instructor will be on hand for any advice and help during the weekend.

Jason O’Riordan who also guides at Clonanav will give a talk on salmon fishing techniques and styles on the rivers Suir & Blackwater. This is sure to be a great talk and if you intend to get into salmon fishing in 2008 this is not to be missed.

Henrik Mortensen Demo - 7 March

World Famous Scandanavian Spey caster Henrik Mortensten Will be giving a FREE demo at Clonanav on saturday 7 of March. This widely known author and broadcaster is now demonstrating and using ZPEY equipment. If you would like to attend this event, please call us or email us.

Demos take place from 2pm to 4 pm and are free of charge.

Spey Casting Tutorial

Henrik will also be hosting an exclusive Spey casting class. Numbers are limited and so if you would like to book a space, the cost is €100 per person for a 4 hour tutorial
