Great Trout Fishing but Salmon Slow

1 |

The past few days has seen some excellent trout fishing on the tributaries with good numbers of fish rising to black gnat and daddy longlegs.  Nymph fishing was also very productive.   Philip O'Brien had a great afternoon on the Nire yesterday with 12 fish to 1.5lb on small black gnats.  It was a fantastic evening with good numbers of trout rising!  His skill with the dryfly ensured that he hooked a good number of the wily fish.  Philip is an experienced dry fly angler and a specialist in fishing small black gnat patterns.   Salmon fishing has been slow, with only a few fish being hooked, but very little sign of any fresh fish entering the system, despite having perfect conditions the last few days.
