What to do when you break your rod

Rod Breakage

We have been in the fly fishing business for over 30 years and have seen the ground breaking developments in fly rod technology that give us the gravity defying high performance rods that we have on the market today. Modern fly rods have become extremely light but very strong using the latest space age materials. However they do break from time to time. The majority of these times it is down to human error.

Whether we like to admit it or not fly rods do not break on their own! It is usually down to some form of error or action by the angler. This may be hitting it on a branch of a tree, leaning it against a wall, a heavy tungsten bead hitting the blank while casting - any of these can cause damage to the fly rod blank. The damage may not be noticed immediately but any of these impacts to the blank can cause a hairline fracture or slight damage that may cause the rod to break during normal use - ie when you are playing a fish or casting.

We have found it very rare that a rod will break due to fault of manufacture - if this is the case it will usually break in the first outing.

However if you do break your rod we have you covered!

  • Sage

    Every new purchased Sage rod, blank or Sage series reel is covered by our lifetime, original owner warranty. (Charges apply).

  • Hardy

    We are delighted that you have chosen a Hardy carbon/glass fibre rod. As an owner of a Hardy carbon/glass fibre rod, you are entitled to take part in the Hardy Product Warranty and Repair Service. To do so, you need to register your rod within 60 days of purchase. If you have not already done so, you may register your product on the Hardy Website.

  • Guideline

    The general warranty period for Guideline products is 2 years from the date of purchase. The warranty covers only material and/or manufacturing defects. The warranty does not cover normal wear or damage caused by accidents, misuse or negligence. The right of complaint is regulated in accordance with the provisions of applicable Consumer Purchase Act.

  • Vision Fly Fishing

    In the case of breakage, for whatever reason, your Vision rod will be repaired or replaced with the nearest current model during the first five years after purchase. This applies only to the original owner and it is given in addition to your statutory rights. A repair handling fee is applicable for all claims under the guarantee.

  • Primal Rods

    Primal rods have a two-year warranty from the date of purchase. This warranty covers manufacturing- or material defects only. To claim warranty on a Primal rod, a valid dated receipt must be presented.

    In the event of breakage of a non-warranty rod due to bad luck or any other un-repairable problem, Flyfish Europe will offer a replacement or an upgrade. This offer is valid for 5 years from the purchase date. The Primal rod will then be replaced by the most similar current model at a replacement/ upgrade charge.

We only offer service on original owner rods that were purchased at Clonanav Fly Fishing.

What do do when you break your rod

Email us with details of the breakage

We will email you a form that you complete

Return the full rod to us in its tube along with the completed form.

Depending on the brand repair can take up to 10-12 weeks

Once we receive the section or rod back from the manufacturer we will contact you for payment

No we do not offer any service on products that were not purchased here.
