Andrew Ryan is one of Ireland’s best known fly fishing instructors and guides. Owner of Clonanav Fly Fishing School and Shop he has been guiding for over 20 years on the river Suir and tributaries. He first qualified as a REFFIS Instructor in 1993 at the age of only 18; one of the youngest instructors to ever be awarded the qualification. Andrew Ryan is a member of APGAI – Ireland, and holds the FFF Masters and THCI which are the highest casting instruction qualifications in the world.

Course Dates
1 Day River Course
The emphasis on this course is to help you to catch more fish on the river. River fishing is one of the more complex forms of fly fishing so this course is the ideal way to ensure success on the river! If you have been on one of our beginners courses and would like to take your fly fishing to the next level this course is ideal for you. The morning part of the course takes place on our casting ponds with the emphasis on improve your casting skills learing to single/double haul, mend line, jump roll. In the afternoon we move to the river and you will learn some river fishing skills - fishing with dry flies, nymphs, and wet flies
A good level of casting is expected for this course. We would advise that if you are inexperienced that you take our beginners course prior to doing the river fly fishing course so that you have a good casting knowledge.
Includes - Course from 10 am to 4.00 pm, equipment, fishing permit and lunch. Waders are not provided so please bring your own.
Course Location
All our courses are held at our facility in Clonanav, Ballymacarbry Co Waterford - E91XY44. Courses start at 10am and finish at 4.00pm
Lunch is provided at the casting ponds or on the river bank depending on which course you are on.
Please ensure to bring wet gear in case of rain.

During the fishing season Clonanav hosts a number of structured fly fishing schools which cater for both beginners and improvers. The courses are designed to make learing the art of fly fishing fun and easy. The schools have been featured on many TV programmes both in Ireland and the UK. NEW are running Spey/Salmon Courses which are ideal for getting into salmon fishing or improving your technique.

Booking Details
Courses can be booked online or calling us. All courses must be paid for in advance.
Cancellations must be at least 21 days prior to course to give us an opportunity to fill the space. Cancellations after this time will mean loss of course fees.
Courses are only available for the specific dates listed. If you would like to book a private river course this can be arranged for a minimum of 6 people.

If you can arrive at Clonanav fly fishing before 10 am on the day of the course. If you could be here for around 9.30 - 9.45. The course begins at 10am. (we are very easy to find on google maps - just search Clonanav Fly Fishing)

If you could be here for around 9.30 - 9.45. The course begins at 10am. We will be doing a short presentation first at the shop then moving to our casting ponds for a refresher casting clinic. After that we move to the river for some river fishing techniques. We will have lunch at the shop then move to the river Suir.
Then we move on to more techniques on the river Suir and some time for you to fish using the newly acquired skills. The course ends at around 4.00.

Please make sure to bring the following with you:
Rain jacket
The rods you normally use for river fishing - we will provide some rods for the duration of some of the techniques.
Waders and boots.
